Due to the proximity to Singapore and the strategic location of the island, it poses the ideal destination for investment and development activities. The island boasts of above 50 shipyards, about 20 of them medium large. A hub for offshore activities and a Port of decent standards.The city also has many industrial areas earmarked for factories and electronic factories provide large scale employment. In reality, the only road block for progress is the Government and law enforcement Machinery. Even though the Government does from time to time wake and make the right noises, constantly changing laws, corrupt officials & protective/ restrictive policies can make doing business in Batam a very challenging proposition.
